Wednesday - November 26, 2008

CALGARY, AB – The Western Hockey League announced on Tuesday that Vancouver Giants’ forward Evander Kane will not participate with Team WHL at the 2008 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge due to injury.

Kane, a 17-year-old from Vancouver, B.C., was set to appear for Team WHL versus the Russian Selects in Swift Current, SK, on Wednesday, November 26th, and in Prince Albert, SK, on Thursday, November 27th.

Eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Kane was off to a tremendous start to the 2008-09 WHL season with the Giants, scoring 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 21 games while helping the Giants to a 20-1-0-3 record and has registered at least one point in every game he played this season.

Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen will take Kane’s spot in Wednesday’s contest in Swift Current.  Kozun was originally slated to suit up only for Thursday’s game in Prince Albert.

The two WHL games will be hosted in the Province of Saskatchewan by the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday, November 26th and the Prince Albert Raiders on Thursday, November 27th.

All games will be broadcast nationally on Rogers Sportsnet.
