The Russians are heading west looking to win the SUBWAY Super Series for the first time in the eight-year history of the event.

After the Russians won the first two games of the series against the QMJHL last week, the OHL claimed both of their games to tie things up. The series concludes with WHL games in Kamloops, BC on Wednesday  and Prince George, BC on Thursday. Both games are at 7:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. Eastern) on Rogers Sportsnet.

The Russians opened the series with a 5-4 win over the QMJHL in Saint John, NB on Monday Nov. 8 and skated to a 4-3 win two nights later in Drummondville, QC. The OHL took a 4-0 win in London last Thursday and edged out a 2-1 shootout win on Monday in Sudbury to tie the series at two wins each.

Artem Voronin game Russia the lead in the second period before Casey Cizikas of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors tied the game with a short-handed goal early in the third.

Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires, Marcus Foligno of the hometown Sudbury Wolves and Joey Hishon of the Owen Sound Attack scored in the shootout while JP Anderson of the Majors stopped three of four Russian shooters to help the OHL seal the win.

"In the change room before the third (period), we came together as a team and we did what we had to do," Cizikas said after Monday's win. "We got pucks deep. We knew they were going to trap and they were going to rim (the puck into the OHL zone) so we got pucks deep and did what we had to do to come out with the win."

Foligno said that it was like a story book ending for him to score the shootout winner on home ice.

"I was nervous as heck (before) but it felt good," Foligno said. "I saw it trickle over the line. After that I just wanted to do the celebration and go high five the guys. It was awesome to get that goal."

That victory maintained the OHL's perfect record in the series.

"We knew that the OHL was 14-0 against the Russians going into this series," Hishon said after last Thursday's win in London. "I think that weighed on our minds a bit and we didn't want to be the team to break that record. We came out strong and played a good game."

After picking up a point in the shootout loss, Russia leads the series seven points to six with the two WHL games remaining.

Los Angeles Kings' prospect Maxim Kitsyn and Nikita Dvurechensky have been the Russian's top scorers in the series with each of them scoring two goals and adding an assist.

The SUBWAY Super Series is used by Hockey Canada to help identify the players that they will select to participate in the final selection camp before the World Junior Championships next month in Buffalo, NY.
