November 16, 2009

Monday - November 16, 2009

Drummondville, QC – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in association with the Canadian Hockey League and SUBWAY® today announced the players that will serve as Captains and Assistants for Team QMJHL in the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series games played in Drummondville on Monday November 16 and in Shawinigan on Wednesday November 18, 2009.

Patrice Cormier of the Rimouski Oceanic will serve as Captain for Team QMJHL for both games with Philippe Cornet of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Marc-Olivier Vachon of the Drummondville Voltigeurs, and Marco Scandella of the Val d’Or Foreurs serving as assistants for both QMJHL games of the series.

Cormier, a 19-year-old from Cap-Pélé, NB, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Oceanic and won gold as a member of Team Canada last season at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships.  In 19 games this season, he has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points.  Cormier was selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 54th overall by the New Jersey Devils.

Cornet and Vachon are ranked second and third in QMJHL scoring with 36 and 35 points respectively.  Cornet, a 19-year-old from Val-Senneville, QC, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season and first with the Huskies.  He was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.  Vachon, a 19-year-old from Thetford Mines, QC, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season with the Voltigeurs.

Scandella, a 19-year-old defenceman from Montreal, QC, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Foreurs.  The 2008 second round selection of the Minnesota Wild has 19 points in 18 games.

Scandella was to serve as an assistant captain for both QMJHL games of the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series but will not compete in the first game in Drummondville due to sudden illness and will be reevaluated prior to the game on Wednesday in Shawinigan.
